York Green Streets Challenge is a year long campaign to encourage York neighbourhoods to cut their carbon emissions by 10% in 2010.
Six Teams and up to 100 individuals will work alongside mentors to reduce their carbon emissions in the area of travel, waste and consumption of goods.

The York Green Streets Challenged was launched on the 9 January when approximately 50 people braved the snow to attend the event. We have now six teams currently taking the challenge. We are hoping to get more before the 5 February 2010.

The hunt is on for the greenest streets in York. Residents of York will be given the opportunity make their street the most environmentally friendly in the city in a new campaign being launched today - World Environment Day.
February has been a quiet month on Bishopthorpe Road. Everyone has been working on their various pledges and being polite to each other in the street. The most exciting thing that happened was that we all managed to pose for a photo… so here we are: the Bishopthorpe Road team.
It is a truth universally acknowledged that Bishopthorpe Road produces more CO2 per road metre than anywhere else in York – more fuel is needed to get up the hill – and so its residents are keen to make amends. OK, I did just make that up but we are keen.
